Karina Sainz Borgo was born in Caracas in 1982 and emigrated to Spain in 2006, where she now lives. Her relatives still live in Venezuela. She works as a journalist in Madrid and writes for various newspapers and blogs in Spain and Latin America. La hija de la española (in German Nacht in Caracas, Fischer-TB 2019) is her first novel, published in 2019.
The novel tells the story of a young Venezuelan woman who tries to flee a crumbling country after the death of her mother. Time Magazine named this title one of the 100 most important books of 2019.
