Franz Birkner

Franz Birkner lives and works in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He is a filmmaker, photographer, artist and university lecturer. After studying German and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, he studied photography at the Bayerische Staatslehranstalt für Photographie in Munich. His experience is based on many years of work at Bayerischer Rundfunk and countless documentary and feature film productions.

Since the 1980s numerous art exhibitions nationally and internationally. Franz Birkner was awarded the Förderungspreis der Stadt München and Staatlicher Förderungspreis für Fotografie. He is an appointed member of the German Photographic Academy and the German Society for Photography. For 30 years he taught photography and film, since 2001 at the Munich University of Applied Sciences.  Franz Birkner is a juror at various photo as well as film competitions.
